How does the Letter of Guarantee work?

We will issue a Letter of Guarantee for the sum of $5,000 as a security bond on your behalf to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM). If you require, we can also issue a Letter of Guarantee to the Philippine Overseas Labour Office in Singapore (POLO) on your behalf. If a demand is made by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and/or the Philippine Overseas Labour Office in Singapore (POLO) as the case may be, we will first meet the payment and recover it from you under the Counter Indemnity of the insurance. You can purchase the optional cover for a waiver of the Counter Indemnity in respect of the Letter of Guarantee to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), paying only $250 for the Excess for your account. This frees you from the need to pay $5,000 cash up front to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) when you are applying for a maid in Singapore.

If I want to limit my liability on the $5,000 Security Bond, what additional coverage can I take up?

You can take up our Reimbursement of indemnity paid to insurer option. It will limit your liability on the $5,000 Security Bond to $250 instead. This is provided that the breach of the $5,000 Security Bond is not due to your negligence or fault. This is an optional feature in our Singapore’s maid insurance scheme and you will need to pay an additional premium for.

Is there a free-look period?

No. There is no free-look period for our Singapore’s maid insurance policy.

How do I purchase the new $6,000 Security Bond for Indonesian maids?

Starting from 1 Feb 2018 as required by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Singapore, employers of Indonesian maids are required to purchase a Security Bond of $6,000. This is applicable when hiring a new helper or renewing a contract.

The bond is also independent of and does not affect MOM’s requirement for all maid employers to purchase the relevant insurance and put up a $5,000 security bond.

Currently, Etiqa Insurance is working to become an accredited Security Bond provider for Indonesian maids. We will update when this service will be available. In the meantime, please click here to purchase the Security Bond.

What is the difference between Medical Expenses benefit and Hospital and Surgical Expenses benefit?

Medical Expenses under the Personal Accident section of our Singapore’s maid insurance scheme cover the cost of treatment (including out-patient treatment) due to accidents only. The cover under Hospital and Surgical Expenses is wider as it extends to medical expenses incurred as an in-patient of a Hospital as a result of illnesses or accident. Medical expenses incurred up to 90 days pre- and post- hospitalisation and day surgery are also covered under Hospital and Surgical Expenses.

How does the Wages reimbursement benefit operate?

Our Singapore’s maid insurance scheme pays a fixed sum per day up to 30 days if your maid is hospitalised as a result of an injury or illness so long as Hospital and Surgical Expenses benefit is payable.

How does the Alternative Domestic Help benefit works?

This benefit relieves an employer by reimbursing a fixed daily sum of up to 30 days for the cost of hiring alternative domestic help during the period of your maid’s hospitalisation due to a covered injury or illness.

Can the maid insurance policy be terminated? If yes, will I get a refund?

If you cancel the maid insurance policy, you will receive a refund of premium based on the unexpired period of insurance. There will be no refund if the maid insurance policy is cancelled after 180 days from the commencement date of the maid insurance or if a claim has been lodged under the maid insurance policy. For more information, please see our Policy Wording, General Conditions, No. 5 on page 11.

What is the entry age of the maid insurance policy?

The applicant must be at least 21 years of age, and the maid must be at least 23 years of age on the start date of the policy.

Does the maid insurance's coverage start immediately?

The commencement date will be a minimum of 5 working days from the application date, but not more than 182 days. Please also note this process needs to be done before the arrival of your maid in Singapore, otherwise the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority may deny your maid’s entry and she will be sent back to her home country.

Why does the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) require me to have a 14 or 26 months’ domestic helper insurance and bond when it only issues a 12 or 24 months’ work permit for my maid?

This is a Ministry of Manpower (MOM) requirement. The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) requires all maid insurance and bond to have an additional 2 months of cover so that in any event or reason the maid overstays in Singapore after her work permit has expired, she is still covered under the maid insurance in Singapore.

Will my maid be covered when she returns to her home country for holiday?

The maid insurance cover ceases from the time she leaves Singapore and resumes upon her return provided her work permit is not cancelled.

How does the Termination or Re-hiring expenses work?

This benefit reimburse you the agency fee of hiring a replacement maid during the period of your maid’s hospitalisation due to death or permanent disablement. The replacement is to be employed within thirty (30) days of your maid’s death or repatriation.
