What are Pre-existing Medical Conditions?
A pre-existing medical condition refers to any illness or injury that you had before the start of your trip. This includes conditions you were aware of, or for which you received medical advice, treatment, a diagnosis, or prescription medication within the 12 months prior to your trip .
Many travel insurance policies exclude coverage related to pre-existing medical conditions while you are overseas.
This is where added protection makes a difference. With optional coverage, your medical history does not have to hold you back, so you can enjoy your travel plans with greater peace of mind.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
It refers to a set of principles under Islamic law. Takaful product(s) and its services comply with the Shariah principles. We manage and/or administer Takaful product(s) that are free from usury(riba) and non-permissible activities such as alcohol, pork, entertainment and tobacco industries.
Yes. It is Shariah-certified by an independent Shariah advisory body – Financial Shariah Advisory and Consultancy of Singapore Islamic Scholars & Religious Teachers Association (Pergas). Travel Takaful is Shariah-compliant under the concept of Wakalah (agency), Tabarru’ (donation) and Takaful (mutual guarantee).
It is an end-to-end Shariah-compliant plan where policyholder contributes monies into a segregated Takaful fund until the policy expires or upon payment of claims. The monies will be allocated and restricted to Shariah-compliant investments only. In addition, the Takaful principles are embedded in the key product document.
This plan is also subjected to review and approval by our Shariah advisory body who ensures that the product continuously complies with the relevant Shariah principles.
Travel Takaful is open for all. One does not have to be a Muslim to sign up for a Takaful plan and its coverage. Every customer will be able to enjoy all benefits and coverage under Travel Takaful.
In addition, this plan also underscores the elements of ethical and values-based principles.
- Wakalah (agency): Policyholders agree to appoint Etiqa to administer the premiums, including the investment of the General Takaful fund and the disbursement of benefits to the entitled policyholders.
- Tabarru’ (donation): Policyholders agree that the remaining portion of the premiums will be allocated as donation for the purposes of mutual support and cooperation.
Note:
To meet the Shariah requirements, policyholders’ acknowledgement on
the following needs to be made upfront:
- On the appointment of Etiqa as an administrator under Wakalah principle;
- On the concept of donation under Tabarru’ principle; and
- On the waiver of excess of Tabarru’ (i.e. underwriting profits) if any and give to Etiqa where it deems fit in administering and/or investing the overall General Takaful fund. For transparency purposes, this utilisation will be subjected to Shariah advisory body review and approval.
In the spirit of Takaful, Etiqa donates 0.1% of the premiums collected from Travel Takaful to Community Chest – at no additional cost to policyholders. This contribution is made by us without affecting policyholders’ premiums or plan benefits.
Both travel insurance provides comparable coverage and benefits. The key difference is that Travel Takaful is Shariah-Certified and structured based on Takaful principles, while Travel Infinite follows a conventional insurance structure. The distinction is structural rather than benefit-based.

You do not need to submit any manual claims if you have provided us the accurate flight details during policy purchase.
We provide real-time tracking of flight delays, automatic immediate assessment and instant approval for travel delay claims. By providing accurate flight information during policy purchase, you will receive a SMS notification from us informing you the claim status if there is a delay. You can then encash the claim payout to your bank account via PayNow.
Please note that this automation only applies if the accurate flight details are provided to us 24 hours before the actual flight departure.
If you did not provide us your flight details during policy purchase or before departure from Singapore, you may still submit a manual claim if your flight is delayed more than 3 hours.
Based on your purchased policy, the maximum benefit limit for Trip Disruption under Deluxe Plan is $2,000 per insured person, and capped at $6,000 per family plan.
Depending on how you and rest of the insured persons submit the claim.
Scenario 1: If you are submitting the claim on behalf of all affected family members, we will pro-rate the family limit evenly among 8 insured persons. We will pay $750 to each insured person.
Scenario 2: If claims are submitted by respective affected insured persons, payout will be calculated based on the drawn limit. For example, the sequence of claim submission as follows:
- First claim submitted by you for yourself, your spouse, your 2 children – we will pay $3,200.
- Second claim submitted by your parents – we will pay $1,600.
- Third claim submitted by your brother – we will pay $800.
- Forth claim submitted by your sister – we will pay $400 (because $6,000 family cap has reached).
Please submit your claim within 30 days from the date of the incident to ensure a smooth assessment process. Claims submitted after 30 days may not be accepted, so we encourage you to file as soon as reasonably possible.
You may log in to our Customer Portal or Etiqa+ SG App to view the status of your claim. Please check your email periodically as our claims team may reach out to you for more information during the assessment period.
If your claim is approved and you have our TiqConnect account, the claim payment will be credited to your eWallet by the next working day. You may encash the funds from your eWallet to your bank account via PayNow. For security and accuracy purposes, you can only encash funds via PayNow NRIC. You can also use your eWallet balance to purchase other insurance products or renew selected policies on our website.
Notwithstanding the above, we reserve the right to release payment to you by alternative payment method.
